The National Forestry Agency continues fighting against the pest, the bark beetle in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. In the spring of 2020, in Samtskhe-Javakheti region (Borjomi, Bakuriani, Akhaltsikhe, Adigeni, Aspindza), the Agency installed 3,000 pheromone traps, to control and monitor the number of pests.

Borjomi plateau is the most damaged place by pests. Due to its proximity to the settlement, the area is a major recreational area and it is important to maintain its ecological condition, as well as improve the infrastructure and tourism potential of the region. Based on the monitoring results, the Forestry Agency plans to implement complex forest care and restoration measures in the nearest years.

The bark beetle (ips typographus), a pest, which is spread in the spruce groves on the territory of the State Forest Fund, arose in the imported timber in the 50s of the last century and significantly reduced the quality of forests. The National Forestry Agency has been carrying out control measures against the bark beetle in Samtskhe-Javakheti region on an area of 26,000 hectares since 2013.
