Works on the construction of "Business Yards" are coming to an end in the Imereti region. David Aladashvili, the Deputy Head of the National Forestry Agency on-site familiarized himself with the ongoing works in the municipality of Zestafoni. At this stage, countrywide works are underway at 14 sites in the regions of Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kakheti, and Imereti.

At the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, "business yards" will be established in almost all Georgian municipalities. In order to improve the process of forest use management, the National Forestry Agency is changing the practice of producing forest materials. Social logging will be phased out in stages, the Agency will organize, produce, sort and store forest materials in "business yards". These reforms will make it easier for the population and the private sector to purchase and transport timber materials in a period convenient for them. It should be noted that the New Forest Code, which has already been approved by the second hearing by the Parliament of Georgia, represents a significant part of the reform of the forest sector, the main purpose of which is the introduction of multi-purpose forest use, conservation and protection of the forest ecosystem, and the rational use of economic and social benefits. So-called "business yards", together with other innovations, are one of the main tools for introducing sustainable forest management.

In addition to providing the population with firewood, which at this stage implies the allocation of cutting areas within the framework of social cutting, the Agency, with the participation of the private sector, continues the organized production of forest materials in all regions. By the end of the year a total of 26 "business yards" will be arranged. As a result, forest use from the side of the production of forest materials will become much more efficient, the negative impact on the forest will decrease, and the risk of illegal logging will also be significantly reduced.
