At the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the so-called "Business Yards" will be arranged almost in all municipalities of Georgia. The Deputy Head of the National Forestry Agency, David Aladashvili, got acquainted with works in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region - in Aspindza, Adigeni, and Borjomi.
In order to improve forest management processes, the National Forestry Agency is changing the practice of timber production. Social cutting will be phased out, the agency itself will organize the production, sorting, and storage of timber in the "Business Yards". This reform will simplify the purchase and transportation of timber for the population and the private sector, in a period convenient for them. In parallel with providing the population with firewood, which at this stage involves the allocation of cutting areas, the Agency, with its own efforts and with the participation of the private sector, continues to manufacture wood in almost all regions. At this stage, work is underway at 11 sites (Kakheti, Lagodekhi, Dedopliskaro, Telavi, Gurjaani, Sagarejo, Imereti - Zestafoni, Samtskhe-Javakheti - Bakuriani, Borjomi, Tsagveri, Aspindza, Chorchana).
Until the end of the year, 26 "Business yards" will be arranged nationwide. As a result, forest management for wood production will become a more efficient, negative impact on the forest and the risk of illegal logging will be significantly reduced.
