Forest inventory in Akhmeta

After Lagodekhi, forest inventory works took place in Akhmeta on the territory of the state forest fund. Field works are carried out on the area of ​​64,000 ha, on the basis of which a ten-year forest management plan will be developed. The last time the forest inventory was carried out in 1991.

Due to the lack of qualified personnel, the National Forestry Agency prepared a special three-month theoretical and practical training course for foresters-taxators, 15 young foresters passed this course are now employed in inventory works. The process is supported by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Prior to the start of field works, in connection with the planned activities and in order to inform the public and maximize involvement at the next stage, the Deputy Head of the National Forestry Agency Natia Iordanishvili met with representatives of local self-government, local residents and other interested parties.

Forest inventory is a prerequisite for sustainable forest management, with the help of which the quantitative and qualitative indicators of the forest are assessed and all types of forestry activities are planned. It has a 10 year audit period. The National Forestry Agency began the restoration of the process in 2013. To date, information on quantitative and qualitative indicators of the forest has been updated on the area of ​​232,316 hectares under the managementof the agency, and 10-year management plans have been prepared.
