The National Forestry Agency continues measures against the bark beetle parasite in Samtskhe-Javakheti region. In the spring of 2019 in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region (Borjomi, Bakuriani, Akhaltsikhe, Adigeni, Aspindza), the agency placed 1,000 units of pheromone traps, with the help of which the parasite is quantitatively monitored.

The bark beetle parasite (ips typographus), common in spruce forests in the forest fund, was brought along with wood in the 50s of the last century, and caused serious damage to the quality of forests.

Since 2013, the National Forestry Agency has been carrying out activities to combat the parasite  bark beetle in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region on an area of 26,000 hectares.

Due to its proximity to the settlement, the territory is mainly a recreational zone, and its preservation is important both for maintaining the ecological condition and for improving the tourist potential and infrastructure of the region. Accordingly, the Forest Agency is planning to carry out comprehensive measures for the care and restoration of forests in the future.
