In connection with the International Day of Environmental Protection, at the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, in the village of Daba, Borjomy Gorge, in a territory near a forest damaged by fires in 2008 and 2017, well-known people  symbolically planted seedlings of coniferous species.

Those planted seedlings will remind the public once again, how important is the responsibility of every citizen to take care and preserve natural wealth - the forest. Even a small carelessness can lead to such a large-scale fire that occurred in the Borjomi gorge in 2017.

On December 15, 1972, the UN General Assembly declared June 5 as the day of Environmental Protection. On this day, the UN conference opened in Stockholm, which was dedicated to the consideration of the problems of the environment of human existence.

The purpose of the celebration of the day of Environmental Protection is to increase the consciousness of people in the field of environmental protection, to promote sustainable development of the environment and active public participation in the struggle to preserve and improve the environment.

At the initiative of the United Nations, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) each year on June 5 devotes itself to one of the environmental problems. The theme of today’s environmental protection day is “Together we can reduce air pollution”.
