10th of October is the international Forester's Day, which was celebrated in the Botanical Garden. Yuri Nozadze, the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, congratulated the professional day to foresters with the symbolic gifts and thankful documents for the successful work. The Head of National Forestry Agency Tornike Gvazava gave a speech regarding the legislative and institutional reforms in recent years in forestry sector.

“The professional Forester's Day  is celebrated in Georgia since 1999. Today we’re thankful for their outstanding performance and we’re awarding them with some memorable gifts. Carrying out their professional duties these people put their lives under risk. Today we have selected some of them, and of course their colleagues’ labor who stand behind them is priceless,-” said the deputy minister during the interview. Together with the foresters, the German International Cooperation Society (GIZ) program "Biodiversity Integrated Management in the South Caucasus" Team leader Benedict Ibelee and Erich Miss, Program Officer for the important assistance in the development of forestry education were awarded by the memorable gifts. The award ceremony was attended by representatives of NGOs, Kachreti Professional College "Aisi" Forestry Students and other invited guests.

The professional day of Forester in Georgia is celebrated since 1999. Since 2013, initiative of the Government of Georgia has started institutional and legislative reform of the forest sector. National forest concept was adopted and new Forest Code was developed. The aim of the reform is to establish sustainable forest management system that will improve the quantity and qualitative indicators of forests in Georgia, protect the biodiversity, and ensure the effective use of their economic potential in accordance with forest ecological values.
