Activities to fight against bark beetle

The National Forestry Agency contentious to fight against the pests – European spruce bark beetle spread in Samtskhe-Javakheti coniferous forest stands. In 2018 2000 pieces of pheromone traps were placed in Samtskhe- Javakheti coniferous forest stands. The coniferous forest stands massive dieback was revealed back in 2011. The National Forestry Agency has been fighting against the pests with sanitary cuttings and pheromone traps for five years. The above mentioned measures have mitigated the pests intensity. Currently the pheromone traps have been monitoring in the intensively pests spread areas. The pheromone traps and caught beetles are being checked and destroyed in every ten days. The NFA entomologists are checking the forest sanitarian situation in non-stop regime. According to their assessment the proper measures are taken. The European spruce bark beetle was first spotted in 1952 in Georgia. These pests had mostly damaged Borjomi, Samtskhe- Javakheti Region.
