2022 Illegal logging-transportation statistics
In 2022, employees of the National Forestry Agency and the Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture revealed 780 illegal timber harvesting and transportation facts. Up to 4,098,997 cubic meters of wood resources were confiscated from lawbreakers. Violations that contained signs of criminal offenses were forwarded to the relevant agencies for further action.
"Implementation of effective state control in the field of natural resources use, as well as prevention, detection, and prevention of illegal use of natural resources is the main priority of the Ministry", - noted the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Kakha Kakabadze.
Illegally harvested timber throughout the country is transferred to the "business yards" of the regions, from where they are sold.
