The new model of the industrial wood disposal

A working meeting was held in the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture within the National Forestry Program (NFP) framework. At the meeting, Deputy Ministers Nino Thandilashvili and Kakha Kakabadze, Heads of the National Forestry Agency and Department of Environmental Supervision, and representatives of the Caucasus Environmental Organizations Network (CENN) discussed the document "Cost-effective, the long-term business model of timber production and sale in Georgia".

"The new model for the management of industrial wood resources aims, on the one hand, to promote the private sector in the process of industrial wood resources production and, on the other hand, to increase the income of the Forestry Agency. We discussed the advantages of the new model in relation to the existing system and future plans on how the implementation of the new model by the Forestry Agency can be released in practice", - noted the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nino Thandilashvili.

The document "Cost-effective, the long-term business model for the production and sale of timber in Georgia" was prepared within the framework of the project "Development of a cost-effective and sustainable management system of timber resources in order to improve the financing of the resources and forest conservation of the National Forestry Agency", with the support of the Biodiversity Financing Initiative (BIOFIN).
