Deputy Ministers of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Kakha Kakabadze and Nino Thandilashvili got acquainted with the ongoing issues of the project "Supporting the implementation of the forest sector reform in Georgia - ECO.Georgia" in Akhmeta Municipality. The 7-year project implements the Government of Georgia in the municipalities of Dedoflistskaro, Telavi, Akhmeta, Kvareli, Chokhatauri, Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti, and Tianeti.

The event was attended by representatives of the German Embassy, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) project in Georgia, as well as the heads of relevant structural units of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

"It is important to have climate change adaptation measures in all sectors to respond to existing challenges. We are actively working to fulfill our commitments to implement all the measures that will contribute to mitigating climate change not only at the national but also at the global level. "Energy-efficient stoves, the production of which is expected to be supported by the ECO.Georgia project, will significantly reduce the pressure on the forest, as well as contribute to the sustainable use of forest resources," said Kakha Kakabadze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

The deputy ministers, together with the invited guests, visited the furnace factory in Akhmeta. Also, in the "business yard," they got acquainted with stacking, sorting, and selling wood resources. The establishment of sustainable forest management is important both for the ecological, economic and social well-being of the country, as well as in the process of climate change adaptation and mitigation.

It was noted, that the stove enterprise can be included in the vouchers program of energy-efficient stoves initiated by the Rural Development Agency, which is implemented within the framework of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) project "Supporting the implementation of forest sector reform in Georgia in order to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases caused by forest degradation".

To achieve the goals mentioned above, a grant of 33 million euros has been allocated by the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The government of the Federal Republic of Germany will contribute 10 million euros to the implementation of the project, and the Swiss Confederation will contribute 4 million euros. In total, the amount allocated as a grant amounts to 47 million euros.
