Sustainable forest management in Dedoplistskaro and Tetritskaro municipalities

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Kakha Kakabadze, listened to the report of the project "Sustainable forest management in Dedoplistskaro and Tetritskaro municipalities". The project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The project, the total budget of which is 482,000 GEL, will be completed in September 2022.

"Within the framework of the project, forest inventory works were carried out on an area of ​​77,537 ha in Dedoplistskaro and Tetritskaro municipalities; forest management plans were prepared. It should be noted that 26 young taxators were employed on inventory work. In the forestry sector, with the financial support of the European Union, a number of important projects are planned in the future," said Kakha Kakabadze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

In addition to the above, Lagodekhi's "business yard" was equipped with solar energy panels within the project "Sustainable forest management in Dedoplistskaro and Tetritskaro municipalities".

According to Keti Khutsishvili, the Head of EU representation programs, the European Union has been working in Georgia for years in many directions; one of them is the support to National Forestry Agency through the United Nations Development Program, which includes forest inventory and the development of forest management plans. Support is provided within the framework of official negotiations between the European Union and the Georgian government.

The review of the report was attended by representatives of the relevant services of the United Nations Development Program, the European Union,  the German International Cooperation (GIZ), and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
