At the initiative of the National Forestry Agency, 20 young specialist foresters will be employed in Tianeti municipality for forest inventory work. New graduates have completed a special internship program with agency specialists, after which they will be involved in field work.

The inventory of the state forest in Tianeti municipality will be carried out in 2022-2023 on the basis of the grant agreement signed between the National Forestry Agency and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) within the framework of the ECO Georgia project financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

"The goal of the project is to improve forest management planning, therefore, together with the forest inventory, the forest accounting on the area of 40,928 ha of Tianeti municipality will be carried out using the statistical method (FMI), which provides an opportunity for better data analysis and long-term planning. The National Forestry Agency has been implementing the special internship program since 2019, and already 45 young people have been employed in inventory work," said the Head of the National Forestry Agency, Irakli Mukniashvili.

The project - ECO.Georgia is jointly implemented by GIZ and the Government of Georgia and contributes to the reform of the forestry sector in Georgia. The project aims to mitigate greenhouse gases by improving forest management and energy efficiency to reduce pressure on forests.
