Meeting with students of Ilia State University

The meeting was held with students of Ilia State University initiated by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture on the occasion of World Environment Day. Natia Iordanishvili, deputy head of LEPL National Forestry Agency and Karlo Amirgulashvili, Head of Biodiversity and Forestry Policy department together with the experts from Lithuania and Hungary talked on the importance of World Environment Day, celebration of which aims to raise public awareness on environmental protection and contribute sustainable development of the environment. The Meeting was organized by the EU Twinning Project - "Strengthening Forest Sustainable Management in Georgia".

International experts have shared the experience on sustainable forest management in the EU, the prevention of illegal logging and contribution to environmental education.

Representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Lithuania and the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary, the Hungarian Ambassador to Georgia Victoria Horvath, project manager of Environment and Rural Development of the European Union Delegation Alvaro Ortega Aparicio, as well as the representatives of Ilia State University and Agricultural University attended the meeting.

The UN General Assembly declared June 5 as the World Environment Day on December 15, 1972. On this day, the UN Conference was opened in Stockholm, which was dedicated to discussing the problems of human habitats.
