The National Forestry Agency continues inventory work across the country. Inventory works on the Ambrolauri forest site are underway on an area of 81,000 hectares and will be completed in 2022. Forest inventory is the basis for sustainable forest management and planning of all types of forestry activities. Its audit period is 10 years. It should be noted that the forest inventory in Georgia was not carried out after the 90th. The process was restored by the National Forestry Agency in 2013. To date, information on the quantitative and qualitative indicators of forests has been updated for the 361,433 hectares under the Agency responsibility, and forest management plans have been prepared for the next 10 years.

Forest inventory fieldworks and the development of forest management plans are carried out by forest specialists, so-called taksators. There has been a shortage of taksators in Georgia for many years. That is why, in 2019, at the initiative of the Forestry Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, a special internship program was launched. Under the program, in 2019-2021, 45 young people with forest education were trained to be employed in forest inventory works.
