The National Forestry Agency has identified the most successful foresters of the year. The Head of the Agency, Archil Nikoleishvili, handed over diplomas and symbolic gifts to the foresters of the regional forest services, as well as to the employees of the central office, for the particularly difficult and risky daily activities.

"There is no doubt that the Georgian forest has a huge potential to make a significant contribution to the country's economic development. Enhancing multi-purpose forest use, which, together with the sustainable consumption of timber resources, effective use of non-timber forest resources, forest recreational, and tourism potential is crucial for rural development. However, in the long run, it will be impossible to receive these benefits without a proper institutional system, proper planning of activities, protection of forests, maintenance, and restoration, in which we, the forest specialists, have a crucial role to play. I am sure that the number of young people who will master this profession will increase more and more; "Together we will be able to make the field particularly successful and will achieve the goals," said Archil Nikoleishvili.

The Head of the Agency thanked the representatives of non-governmental and international organizations for their long year's support. Over the years, the National Forestry Agency has implemented a number of projects with the support of GIZ, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), CENN, and other partners.

Archil Nikoleishvili also awarded the winners of the "Sandro Urushadze Award 2021", young scientists and foresters. The students of the Georgian Agrarian University Alexander Narsia and Elizaveta Avoyan, as well as the student of the Technical University Nodar Beridze, have been awarded.

The  Sandro Urushadze Award, an early passed away scientist and forester, was established in 2019 at the initiative of Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
