Forest Restoration Project in tkibuli forest district
A degraded forest restoration project will be implemented across a total area of 6 hectares in the Mukhuri and Satsire forests within the Tkibuli forest district. Specialists from the National Forestry Agency will develop the restoration project, with field operations scheduled to begin in 2027.
The Mukhuri area previously featured a mixed stand of Colchic boxwood and chestnut, which has now been destroyed as a result of pest infestations. Following perimeter fencing and clearing operations, planting will be planned using species that will ensure the preservation of the original ecosystem. In the Satsire area, the planting of oak, pine, chestnut and beech species is tentatively planned.
"The primary objective of the forestry reform is the restoration of degraded forests. This year, the National Forestry Agency implemented forest restoration measures across nearly 2,600 hectares in 9 regions of the country. According to our long-term plan, forest restoration activities will ultimately cover an area of up to 51,000 hectares," stated Besik Amiranashvili, Head of the National Forestry Agency.
