Illegal Extraction of Timber in Kakheti
Employees of the Kakheti Forestry Service and the Kakheti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detected a case of illegal logging involving an especially large quantity of timber.
A local resident of Omalo illegally harvested and stacked 28 beech logs, totaling a volume of 12 cubic meters of industrial timber. An off-road vehicle intended for the transportation of the illegally harvested timber was also discovered at the site.
The case contains elements of a criminal offense. The vehicle was impounded, and the illegally harvested industrial timber was transferred to the Akhmeta business yard for further disposition.
'To prevent the illegal use of natural resources, employees across all 9 regional forestry services are actively working. We monitor violations using modern technological tools. This specific case was uncovered as a result of a joint operation conducted by the Kakheti Forestry Service and the Kakheti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. We will actively continue our cooperation with relevant agencies in this direction in the future,' stated Besik Amiranashvili, Head of the National Forestry Agency
