Illegal Logging and Timber Transportation Detected in Tsalka
Employees of the Kvemo Kartli Forestry Service under the National Forestry Agency detected a case of illegal logging and timber transportation in Tsalka Municipality.
A local resident illegally harvested 4 cubic meters of coniferous firewood within the state forest territory in Tsalka and was transporting it using an off-road vehicle.
An administrative violation report was filed against the offender. The vehicle was impounded, and the illegally harvested firewood was transferred to the Tsalka operational log yard for further disposition.
'For the effective implementation of forest protection and monitoring, the National Forestry Agency is equipped with modern technological capabilities. Furthermore, within the framework of the forestry reform, 401 new employees were added to the agency, who carry out forest protection and control across ranger beats. Strengthened monitoring and control mechanisms facilitate the prevention and detection of illegal logging. To prevent legal violations and protect forest resources, the agency will actively continue appropriate measures in the future,' stated Giorgi Mikeladze, Deputy Head of the National Forestry Agency.
