Timber illegal logging and transportation statistics - May 2026

In May of this year, employees of the National Forestry Agency detected 56 instances of environmental violations, 45 of which involved the illegal logging and transportation of timber.

In total, up to 45 cubic meters of illegally harvested firewood and timber materials of various tree species were seized and transferred to the National Forestry Agency’s 'Business Yards' for storage.

Looking across the country, out of the total illegal logging cases, 5 violations were detected by the staff of the Imereti Forestry Service, 5 in Samtskhe-Javakheti, 4 in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, 18 in Kvemo Kartli, 1 in Mtskheta-Mtianeti, 7 in Guria, 4 in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, and 1 by the employees of the Shida Kartli Forestry Service.

Notably, 2 of the detected violations contain signs of criminal offenses. Consequently, the case materials have been forwarded to law enforcement agencies for further investigation.

Alongside the instances of illegal logging and transportation, 11 cases of unauthorized occupation of state forest land were identified: 8 in the Shida Kartli region, 2 in Kakheti, and 1 in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region.
