Forest Restoration Project
A working meeting was held in the Kakheti region for forestry sector representatives to discuss the planning of forest care and restoration activities. Participants deliberated on forest restoration practices and methodology, modern forest management approaches, and current challenges. Additionally, specific measures were discussed to facilitate the restoration of degraded forests and promote sustainable management.
The meeting was held within the framework of the project "Support to the Implementation of the Forestry Sector Reform in Georgia – ECO Georgia," which aims to support the sector's reform and strengthen sustainable forest management. Participants were also introduced to the Riparian (Chala) Forest Restoration Project, where activities are currently underway across an area of up to 600 hectares. It is also noteworthy that forest restoration measures under this project are being implemented in three target regions.
"Increasing the area of restored degraded forests is a priority for both the forestry reform and the GCF (Green Climate Fund) project. Notably, within the framework of this project, forest restoration measures will be carried out across a total of 20,000 hectares in three target regions: Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, and Guria," stated Besik Amiranashvili, Head of the National Forestry Agency.
The meeting was organized at the initiative of the National Forestry Agency. It was attended by representatives from the Ajara Forest Agency, the Agency of Protected Areas, the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, and the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ).
