Timber illegal logging and transportation statistics - March 2026
In March of this year, employees of the National Forestry Agency revealed 111 facts of violations, 105 of which are illegal extraction and transportation of timber.
In total, up to 134 cubic meters of illegally extracted firewood and timber of various species were seized and stored in the "business yards" of the Forestry Agency. Across the country, out of the facts of illegal timber extraction, 17 violations were revealed by employees of the Imereti Forestry Service, 3 - Samtskhe-Javakheti, 15 - Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti, 8 - Kvemo Kartli, 31 - Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti - 5, Guria - 8, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti - 7, and 11 - by employees of the Shida Kartli Forestry Service; also, 1 unregistered sawmill was revealed in Imereti.
It is noteworthy that one fact of the violations contains signs of a criminal offense, therefore, the materials have been forwarded to law enforcement agencies for the purpose of further investigation. Also, five facts of arbitrary occupation of state forest were revealed: one in Mtskheta-Mtianeti and four in the Kakheti regions.
Across the country, 191 facts of illegal timber extraction were revealed by employees of the National Forestry Agency during the January-March period.
