Unregistered sawmill in Tkibuli
Employees of the Imereti Forestry Department in Tkibuli uncovered a case of illegal logging and transportation of timber in a state forest. The offender illegally harvested up to 17 cubic meters of various types of construction timber, which was transported by a vehicle without a state registration plate. An unregistered sawmill and an unauthorized charcoal kiln were found on the private property. The sawmill area contains primary processed products – planks. The environmental damage is being assessed. Since the case contains elements of a criminal offense, the materials will be sent to the relevant investigative authorities for further action.
"To detect and prevent illegal use of natural resources, forestry employees are conducting systematic patrols. At the same time, continuous monitoring is carried out using modern technologies, such as video traps and drones. As part of the forest reform, additional equipment for the agency is planned for this year. All resources are mobilized to minimize violations," said Besik Amiranashvili, head of the National Forestry Agency.
