Employees of the Imereti Forestry Service have uncovered illegal logging of timber in the Sachkhere state forest. The offender illegally harvested up to 4 cubic meters of chestnut timber, which is protected on the Red List. The damage caused to the environment amounts to 4,000 GEL. Since the case contains signs of a criminal offense, the materials have been forwarded to the relevant investigative agency for further response. The illegally harvested timber has been transferred to the Sachkhere business yard for further disposal.

"We are continuously implementing controls to prevent illegal logging. Our goal is to minimize illegal pressure on the forest. I would like to note that to strengthen forest monitoring and control, the Forestry Agency is being technically re-equipped with modern technological means, which is one of the priority directions of the forestry reform," said Besik Amiranashvili, Head of the National Forestry Agency.
