Statement by the National Forestry Agency regarding the increase in forest fires
Several forest fires are being recorded in Georgia. The National Forestry Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture urges the population to exercise special caution when navigating through the forest. According to statistics, human negligence is the main cause of forest fires. Several forest fires are being recorded in the Kvemo Kartli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti, Imereti, and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions. The fire is burning in the lower layer of the forest cover, a thorn bush. The fire outbreaks have been localized in almost all regions, and fire liquidation is underway. The employees of the National Forestry Agency and the Environmental Supervision Department are involved in the work along with the Emergency Management Service. It is worth noting that, according to the Code of Administrative Offenses of Georgia, violation of fire safety requirements in forests, resulting in the occurrence of a forest fire or its spread over a certain area, as well as the destruction or damage of a forest due to setting fire or careless handling of fire, will result in a fine. To suppress, detect, and prevent violations, in parallel with 24-hour, continuous patrols throughout the country, an immediate response is carried out to each message recorded on the Ministry's hotline (153).
