Employees of the Kvemo Kartli Forestry Service discovered the fact of illegal logging and transportation in Bolnisi, in a state forest, through a video trap set up for monitoring purposes. A local resident illegally harvested up to 4 cubic meters of wood from the species Carpinus, which was being transported using a high-mobility vehicle.

The vehicle was sealed, and the illegally harvested timber was transferred to the Bolnisi's business yard for further handling.

“In order to effectively carry out measures for the prevention, detection, and suppression of illegal logging and transportation, the National Forestry Agency is equipped with the necessary equipment and vehicles. To ensure the smooth operation of regional forestry services, the Agency has purchased 21 high-mobility vehicles, 10 drones, 750 camera traps, and body cameras, all of which help strengthen forest control,” said Kakha Tsertsvadze, the head of the National Forestry Agency.
