October 22 is the International Day of Tree Planting
As part of the celebration of the International Day of Tree Planting, a planting event was held in the yard of the 5th Public School in the city of Poti. Around 20 conifer saplings were planted in the area surrounding the school. The event was organized with the support of the National Forestry Agency and the initiative of the "Bilivi" Foundation. The students of the school will take care of the newly planted saplings.
An eco-lesson on forest ecosystems was also conducted for the public school students. They received comprehensive information about the importance of Georgia's forests and their biodiversity.
The aim of the National Forestry Agency’s campaign, "Plant a Tree," is to raise public awareness regarding forest care, restoration, and preservation. Public involvement and transparency in the process are essential prerequisites for sustainable forest management. The engagement and active participation of young people are of particular importance. The "Bilivi" Foundation unites students from various public schools in the city of Poti, who are involved in charitable, cultural, and educational projects.
It is noteworthy that the International Day of Tree Planting was established in 1874 by the American botanist Sterlington Morton.
