For the development of the ten-year forest management plan in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, forest inventory work is being carried out on a total area of 40,900 hectares in state forests. The fieldwork also involves young forester-taxators, who, after completing a special course, have been employed in the inventory work.

Kakha Tsertsvadze, Head of the National Forestry Agency, familiarized himself with the ongoing fieldwork on site.

After the completion of the inventory, a draft forest management plan will be developed, which will detail all the forestry and silvicultural activities, including sanitary felling, forest restoration measures, forest road construction, and others.

"At present, we have fully updated data for 50% of the territory managed by the National Forestry Agency. In 2025, inventory work will be carried out in Guria, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, and Kakheti, covering a total area of 127,000 hectares, in order to properly and efficiently plan forestry and silvicultural activities for the next ten years," said Kakha Tsertsvadze, Head of the National Forestry Agency.

The ongoing project in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region is being implemented within the framework of a grant agreement between the National Forest Agency and the German International Cooperation Society (GIZ) titled "Sustainable Forest Management in Agency-controlled Areas - 8 Target Forest Areas." Tianeti forest area is one of the target areas of the GCF project. The total value of the project is 654,000 GEL.
