Two cases of illegal logging in the Khoni municipality.
The employees of the Imereti Forest Service identified two cases of illegal logging in the Khoni municipality. In the village of Kinchkha, 16 cubic meters of firewood, including oak, hornbeam, and chestnut, which are protected by the Red List, were found in a state forest. As a result, the case involves signs of a criminal offense. The materials were forwarded to the relevant investigative authorities for further action, and the illegally obtained timber was transferred to the business yard in Khoni.
"In the period from January to June 2025, the employees of the Imereti Forest Service identified 28 violations, while 86 violations were identified in the same period of 2024. It is important to note that the number of violations has sharply decreased compared to the previous year, which is a result of patrolling along with the use of modern technologies—drones and video traps—for control," said Kakha Tsertsvadze, the head of the National Forestry Agency.
