Timber illegal logging and transportation statistics - May 2025
In May of this year, employees of the National Forestry Agency uncovered 86 cases of legal violations.
Of these violations, 49 involved the illegal harvesting and transportation of timber. A total of 209 cubic meters of illegally harvested timber, consisting of various species, were seized and stored in the Agency's "business yards".
Nationwide, the illegal timber harvesting violations were distributed as follows: 1 violation was discovered by employees of the Imereti Forestry Department, 15 by the Samtskhe-Javakheti department, 9 by the Guria department, 8 by the Kvemo Kartli department, 1 by the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti department, 2 by the Kakheti department, 1 by the Mtskheta-Mtianeti department, and 12 by the Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti Forestry Department.
It is noteworthy that from January to May 2025, a total of 223 cases of illegal timber harvesting and transportation were detected across the country by employees of the National Forestry Agency. The total volume of resources stored in the "working yards" amounted to 485 cubic meters.
Employees of regional forestry departments also uncovered 37 cases of unauthorized occupation of state forest fund land. Of these, 36 cases were detected in Bakhmaro and 1 in Telavi.
It is also worth mentioning that photo traps have been installed along the entire perimeter of the state forest managed by the National Forestry Agency. These, combined with patrols by forestry department staff, allow for the prompt detection of violations.
