On the occasion of the International Day of Forests, at the initiative of the National Forestry Agency of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, an information meeting was held for the eco-club members of the Gelati Public School in the village of Tkibuli Municipality.

The pupils received information about the importance of the forest, its maintenance and restoration, and symbolically planted 21 seedlings of coniferous and deciduous species in the area surrounding the school, that they will care for themselves. Children with Down syndrome from the Kutaisi Day Center - “Magical World” joined the planting campaign.

The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Kakha Kakabadze, Mayor of Tkibuli City Davit Cherkezishvili, and representatives of local self-government.

"We held an information meeting for students of one of the schools active in environmental protection activities. Public involvement and transparency of the process are prerequisites for sustainable forest management. The interest of young people and their activity are of particular importance. I would also like to note that the promotion of vocational education and attracting young people to the field are the main priorities of the National Forestry Agency. We hope to see increased interest in both this profession and the care and preservation of the forest ecosystem," said Kakha Kakabadze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

The goal of celebrating the International Day of Forests is to raise public awareness about the importance of forests.
