The fact of illegal logging in Kharagauli
Employees of the Imereti Forestry Service of the National Forestry Agency have revealed the fact of illegal logging of up to 5 cubic meters of chestnut timber, a species protected by the “Red List”, in the state forest of Kharagauli Municipality. The illegally harvested timber has been transported to the “business yard” of Zestaponi.
“Chestnut is a species protected by the “Red List”. The case contains signs of a criminal offense. The materials have been sent to the relevant agency for further response. Significant damage to the environment has been caused, the calculation of which is underway,” said Kakha Tsertsvadze, head of the National Forestry Agency.
