The fact of illegal logging in Bakuriani
The Samtskhe-Javakheti Forest Service revealed the fact of illegal logging and transportation of timber in the state forest in Bakuriani. A local resident illegally obtained up to 6 cubic meters of coniferous timber. An administrative report was drawn up against the violator. The off-road vehicle was sealed, and the illegally harvested timber was transported to the Tsagveri “business yard”.
“In order to prevent any violations, employees of the regional forestry services patrol the entire perimeter of the state forest. We monitor a number of detected violations using camera traps placed in the forest and drones, which contributes to the timely detection of illegal use,” said Kakha Tsertsvadze, head of the National Forestry Agency.
