Timber illegal logging and transportation statistics - July 2024
The employees of the regional forestry services of the National Forestry Agency of the Ministry of Environmental and Agriculture revealed 51 facts of illegal logging and transportation of timber throughout the country in July of this year.
Of the facts of illegal logging, 26 violations were detected by the employees of the Kakheti Forestry Service, 2 facts were detected - Kvemo Kartli, 2 - facts were detected in Shida Kartli, 6 - Samtskhe-Javakheti, 2 - Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, 1 - Mtskheta-Mtianeti, 5 - Guria and 5 - by employees of Imereti Forestry Service. In total, up to 102,874 cubic meters of illegally harvested timber of different species were removed, which were to be stored in the "business yards" of the agency.
In addition, the employees of the National Forestry Agency, together with the employees of the Department of Environmental Supervision, revealed 1 fact of unregistered sawmills in the territory of the state forest in Kakheti. Relevant documentation has been drawn up, the sawmill has been closed, and 15 cubic meters of lumber removed from the surrounding area will be stored in the "business yard". Since the case contains signs of a criminal offense, the materials were sent to the relevant agency for further action.
It should be noted that from January to July 2024, a total of 481 facts of illegal logging and transportation of wood across the country were detected by the employees of the National Forestry Agency; The volume of resources stored in "business yards" amounted to 458,784 cubic meters.
