Timber illegal logging and transportation statistics - June 2024

The National Forestry Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture employees detected 61 illegal logging and timber transportation cases in June 2024 across the country.

11 violations were detected by the employees of the Kakheti Forest Service, 19 - Kvemo Kartli, 8 - Shida Kartli, 7 - Samtskhe-Javakheti,  11 - Guria, and 5 - Imereti Forest Service. In total, up to 56,639 cubic meters of illegally harvested timber of different species were confiscated, and will be stored in the "business yards" of the agency.

In addition, the employees of the National Forestry Agency, together with the Department of Environmental Supervision, revealed 4 facts of unregistered sawmills in the territory of the state forest - in Samtskhe-Javakheti, Imereti, Kvemo Kartli, and Mtskheta-Mtianeti. Relevant documentation has been drawn up, sawmills have been sealed, and 24,729 cubic meters of lumber and 26,387 cubic meters of firewood confiscated from the surrounding areas will be stored in "business yards". Since the case contains signs of a criminal offense, the materials for further response were sent to the relevant agencies.

In the first six months of 2024, the National Forestry Agency detected a total of 436 cases of illegal logging and timber transportation across the country. The illegally stored timber in "business yards" amounted to 355.91 cubic meters.
