Visit of the head of the National Forestry Agency to Slovenia
Head of the National Forestry Agency, Kakha Tsertsvadze, is on a working visit to the Republic of Slovenia.
Within the framework of the visit, the representatives of the National Forestry Agency met with the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry of Slovenia. At the meeting, they discussed the ongoing issues of the project "Sustainable forest management in Adigeni Municipality, Phase II". The mentioned project is implemented in Georgia with the support of the Center for International Cooperation and Development of the Republic of Slovenia (CMSR).
At the meeting they talk about the cooperation between the countries in such areas as urban forest management, forest inventory, training program on safe work in forests.
"With the financial support of the Slovenian government, the National Forestry Agency is implementing an important project in Adigeni municipality. The second phase of the project is particularly important for the development of sustainable forest management in Adigene Municipality. Taking into account the Slovenian practice, forest roads, eco-tourism infrastructure - trails, camping and picnic areas will be arranged," said the head of the National Forestry Agency, Kakha Tsertsvadze.
Within the framework of the project "Sustainable forest management in Adigeni Municipality, Phase II", during the past two years, inventory works were carried out in Adigeni Municipality on an area of 30 thousand ha, forest management and recreational development plans were prepared, "business yard" was equipped with the necessary equipment for effective operation, retrained Employees of the Forestry Agency. During the project, a large-scale training program on safe work in forests was also implemented.
The main goals of the project "Sustainable Forest Management in Adigen Municipality" are to improve the socio-economic conditions of local communities united in sustainable forest management and environmental agreements in Adigen Municipality. The mentioned project is implemented by the representatives of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Caucasus Program Consortium and Zavita Consulting with the financial support of the Government of Slovenia. The total budget of the project is 1,099,940 euros. The contribution of the National Forestry Agency to the project is 551,500 euros, and the amount of the grant, in total, is 548,440 euros.
Together with the representatives of Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, representatives of the Forestry Agency of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and WWF were in the Republic of Slovenia. Within the framework of the visit, the members of the delegation were in Mashun and Pahernik forests. They discussed issues and experiences related to sustainable forest management.
