Forest restoration project in Tianeti
Within the "Forest Friend" platform, a forest restoration project will be implemented in Tianeti Municipality. "EFES Georgia" is the first company that join the volunteer platform for forest care. The new brand - EFES Special will take care of forest restoration in the Tianeti forest area, for which 13,200 GEL will be spent.
This year, the company will carry out measures to promote the natural renewal of the forest on an area of 12.1 hectares, in the Simoniantkhevi forest area. It will also take care of the long-term maintenance of the restored area.
At the initiative of the National Forestry Agency, with the financial support of the Biodiversity Financing Initiative (BIOFIN) of the United Nations Development Program, the platform "Forest Friend" was created. The platform offers both individuals and commercial organizations to participate in the restoration of forests in Georgia with both volunteer involvement and financial support.
As of today, 969 volunteers are registered on the "Forest Friend" platform, individual donations amounted to 454, and corporate donations amounted to 64,923 GEL. The necessary equipment and materials for forest restoration work worth 29,000 euros have been purchased. Reforestation projects to be implemented in 2024 will be added to the platform.
The objective of "Forest Friend" is to bring the community together to tackle the issues that are affecting the forests of Georgia. Anyone who is interested, whether a legal or a physical person, can sign up on the portal - www.forestfriend.ge, choose a project that they want to support, make a donation, and become a friend of the forest.
