Georgia is hosting the delegation of the Green Climate Fund
The Green Climate Fund (GCF) delegation is in Georgia on an official visit. The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is the world's largest fund that helps developing countries meet their climate change goals.
It is worth noting that in 2021, with co-financing from the Green Climate Fund, the governments of Germany, Switzerland, and Georgia launched the "ECO.Georgia" project to support Georgia's forest sector. The National Forestry Agency is one of the primary implementers of a project that covers 8 target municipalities in 3 regions of Georgia. The project aims to reduce the pressure on Georgia's forests by implementing measures that promote sustainable forest management. The project will conclude in 2028.
As part of their visit to Georgia, the members of the Green Climate Fund delegation visited the Kakheti region. They were accompanied by Kakha Kakabadze, the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, as well as representatives from the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency (SDC), the German Embassy, and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). During their visit, they explored the forest sector of Georgia and learned about the activities carried out under the support project called "ECO.Georgia".
The delegation was informed about the ongoing forest inventory and restoration efforts in Kvareli municipality. They visited the "business yard" of Khodasheni village, which was organized and equipped with special equipment within the framework of the project. The delegation also visited a workshop on energy-efficient stoves in Akhmeta. Promoting alternative fuels is one of the project goals.
Within the framework of the project, on the basis of the grant agreement signed between the National Forestry Agency and GIZ, this year, in the municipalities of Kvarli and Telavi, forest inventory works are being carried out on a total area of 98,000 ha. Based on the achieved data ten-year forest management plans will be prepared. Inventory works in the municipalities of Tianeti, Kvareli, Telavi, Dedoplistskaro, Chokhatauri, and Lanchkhuti cover a total area of 228,000 ha. Within the framework of the project, 15 "business yards" were organized in the target municipalities, renovation of the special purpose vehicle fleet, employee training, and forest maintenance and restoration activities are underway.
