On their professional day, Minister Otar Shamugia congratulated the foresters and expressed gratitude for their contribution to the forestry sector. Additionally, successful foresters of the year were recognized and awarded symbolic gifts for their challenging and hazardous activities.

Georgia is a country that boasts an abundance of forests. The country's tradition, culture, and knowledge have contributed to the necessary care that these forests require to ensure their preservation. Over the past decade, the forestry sector has undergone significant changes with the help of international partners and supporters. The problems that have accumulated over time are being gradually addressed. The country has achieved results that will bring even more benefits to the population in the future", said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Otar Shamugia.

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Kakha Kakabadze, addressed the meeting and credited the sector's significant progress to the Ministry and National Forestry Agency's hard work.

"Legislation was adjusted, governance processes improved, forest inventory and management plans became systematic, forest care and restoration increased, forestry infrastructure developed via business yards and forest roads. Organized timber production contributes to the local economy through job creation and the formation of the timber market. In all this, the role of foresters is significant", said Kakha Kakabadze.

The Head of the National Forestry Agency, Kakha Tsertsvadze, congratulated the foresters on their professional day.

"Georgia's forests have the potential to contribute significantly to the country's economy, while still serving their primary ecological purpose. Proper institutional systems, planning, protection, maintenance, and restoration of forests are required for long-term benefits. The National Forestry Agency has updated its special purpose vehicle fleet to effectively implement forestry measures. As an agency, we prioritize the social guarantees and working conditions of our employees. Recently, we have implemented legislative changes that provide life and health insurance for foresters and incentives for performing particularly challenging tasks. We are confident that these changes will significantly increase employee motivation", said Kakha Tsertsvadze.

At the event, the National Forestry Agency's Head conveyed appreciation to the foresters and representatives of non-governmental and international organizations for their steadfast support in safeguarding the country's distinctive resources. The National Forestry Agency has effectively implemented several projects over the years with the assistance of partners like GIZ, UNDP, WWF, CENN, and others.

Celebrities, athletes, actors, singers, and media representatives were also honored at the event for their continuous involvement in the National Forestry Agency's information campaigns.

The event was attended by representatives from the legislative body, academic circles, environmental NGOs, and international partner organizations.
