Forest inventory works in Kvareli and Telavi municipalities
The Head of the National Forestry Agency, Kakha Tsertsvadze, visited Kvareli and Telavi municipalities to check on the progress of the forest inventory works.
A survey of the inventory field is currently underway across an area of 98,000 hectares. The National Forestry Agency and the Center for Environmental Information and Education have trained 20 foresters-appraisers who are currently employed to carry out this work. Ten-year forest management plans will be prepared based on the results of the inventory.
"In order to ensure the continuity of forest inventory work and to increase the number of specialists with relevant qualifications in the country, the National Forestry Agency, within the framework of a special program, retrained up to 45 young forestry specialists. The agency is still pursuing this direction. This year, we have additionally employed 20 foresters-appraisers for the inventory work", said the Head of the National Forestry Agency, Kakha Tsertsvadze.
It is important to develop ten-year forest management plans for proper and effective management of forestry activities. Accordingly, on the initiative of the National Forestry Agency, in 2023, in total, field inventory work will be carried out on an area of 228,000 ha in the municipalities of Tianeti, Kvareli, Telavi, Dedoplistskaro, Chokhatauri, and Lanchkhuti.
The state forest inventory is carried out on the basis of a grant agreement signed between the National Forestry Agency and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) within the framework of the ECO Georgia project funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the governments of Germany, Switzerland, and Georgia.
