The employees of the National Forestry Agency revealed 81 facts of timber illegal logging and transportation in May of this year

The employees of the regional services of the National Forestry Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture revealed 81 facts about illegal logging and transportation of timber throughout the country in May of this year.

The 36 facts of illegal logging were detected by the employees of the Kakheti Forest Service, 4 - Kvemo Kartli, 1 - Mtskheta-Mtianeti, 19 - Shida Kartli, 9 - Samtskhe-Javakheti, 5 - Imereti, 5 - Racha-Lechkhumi Kvemo Svaneti, and 2 violations were detected by the employees of the Forestry Service of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti.

Regarding the violation, appropriate documentation was drawn up, and vehicles have been sealed and transferred to the "business yards" of the Agency. Case materials were sent to relevant agencies for further response.

In May 2023, the National Forestry Agency in total removed up to 170 cubic meters of various types of wood including up to 20 cubic meters of firewood, and up to 150 cubic meters of industrial, which are stored in the agency's "business yards".

As for the period from January to May 2023, the National Forestry Agency has identified 535 cases of illegal timber harvesting and transportation throughout the country. The volume of resources stored in "business yards" is 1550 cubic meters.
