Unfortunately, this species has been heavily impacted by illegal logging and pollution over the course of many years.

The National Forestry Agency implementing forest restoration measures in Kutaisi Mukhnari since 2018. Along with the sanitary cuts, both planting and forest natural renewal measures were implemented. Within the framework of amelioration, drainage works were carried out in the flooded area.

"Regarding the Kutaisi oak forest, we are not only considering plans related to forest restoration but also the model of the area's development, which will give the population the opportunity to receive economic benefits. This year, we will start studying the territory, and preparing a recreational development plan, which will be an additional incentive for the interest of the private sector and local population", said the Head of the National Forestry Agency, Kakha Tsertsvadze.
The forest restoration measures span an area of 270 hectares. 9,500 saplings of leafy species, such as the Imeretian oak, which are protected by the "Red List", have been planted. The perimeter is completely fenced and there is evidence of natural renewal in a healthy state. Specialists are monitoring the area.
