Yuri Nozadze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, together with Hubert Knirsch, the German Ambassador to Georgia, and representatives of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) got acquainted with the forest national inventory works in the village of Maghrani.

Forest National Inventory in Georgia will allow us to obtain scientifically substantiated and reliable data on the forest, which is then used to determine forest policy and decision making.

"The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture aims to establish forest information and monitoring system. In addition, the Forest National Inventory is a central element of the forest information and monitoring system. The project is very important, by the end of the next year we will have full information about the quality of forests, "- said Yuri Nozadze.

In 2017, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, the National Forestry Agency, and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
Within the framework of the project, a working group was set up, which developed a methodology and field manual related to the forest national inventory, adapted to the geographical conditions of Georgia.

In 2019, the forests of Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Adjara, and Guria regions were inventoried, and as a result, a report on forest conditions was prepared. Fieldworks are currently underway in Samegrelo Zemo-Svaneti, Kakheti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Imereti, and Shida Kartli regions.
