A working meeting  on sustainable forest development was held at the Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel. At the initiative of the National Forestry Agency, representatives of the Forest Management Department of the Forest Service of Slovenia visited Georgia.

Georgia is beginning forest inventory at the national level in the current year, which has not been carried out to this day. The inventory will be completed in 2019 and Georgia will have important data on the state of the forests in the country, which is an important basis for decisions on forestry issues and sustainable forest development planning, and also promotes international reporting.

Updated data on the forests of the country allows better planning of forest use and management, as well as sustainable development of forests, which will directly affect the provision of the population with a timber resource. Slovenia is characterized by the best practice of managing natural forests, especially in the areas of forest inventory, information systems and planning.

The meeting discussed issues of forest inventory, forest management planning, forest data collection and management issues. The meeting was held with the support of the GIZ International Cooperation Society of Germany.
