The National Forestry Agency, with the support of BP, plans to restore the chestnut in the Imereti region. Foreign experts, together with the agency's specialists, familiarized with the situation at the site.
The disease, known as "cancer of the chestnut bark", is common not only in Georgia, but throughout the world. In the frame of the project, an inventory of the forest area of Zestafoni has already been carried out. In addition, works on the disease researches, the restoration of the forest ecosystem and the forest management plan are carried out.
Measures to improve sanitation and forest restoration, developed in accordance with the recommendations of the agency's specialists, will begin this year.
Along with Georgian experts, scientists from the Forest Research Institute of Austria participate in the study.
