Since April of this year the National Forestry Agency will began poisoning the territories of the damaged boxwood. In the regions of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Imereti, Guria and Racha-Lechkhumi Kvemo Svaneti 550 hectares of forest fund will be treated with a biological preparation. Based on the biology of the parasite within a year the treatment will be carried out three times (from spring to autumn).
In damaged areas an alternative method of fighting with pheromone traps is also tested.
In addition to the above measures, it is also planned to carry out the restoration work of boxwood.
In order to preserve the colchis box the National Forestry Agency also conducts conservation measures, a seed bank has been established, and in the Samegrelo region works are held on the establishment of a box nursery.
In 2016 the National Forestry Agency carried out the work on handling boxwood by biological preparation in three regions - Imereti, Guria and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti.
In 2017 the parasite was recorded on an area of 150 hectares of Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti, where the agency also processed.
As a result of the works in the region of Samegrelo and Zemo Svaneti, as well as in some areas of the Imereti region, a decrease in the amount of parasite and regeneration of damaged seedlings was recorded.
